Road to Economic Recovery Idea Snap Shot…
Regarding, Saturday, 11/20/08 {Economic Team – Agenda} address, thoughts noted below:
1. I strongly believe that one of the top agenda items for the economic team is to encourage corporate American to begin mobilizing their work forces to work from home.
Technology has brought us far enough to implement this in masses thereby reducing overhead, operational expenses, real estate which can convert cost back into business investment and overall growth.
About 8 years ago I saw a C-Span congressional hearing discussing the possibilities for government to take the lead in telecommuting and setting the tone and example. One of the reasons sited was based on potential candidates the government has lost over time because they didn’t want to relocate. Should the government and/or any business sacrifice candidates due to location? No, one should maintain the opportunity for them as good investments / assets and use technology for the blessing that it is.
In this hearing the government sited statistics confirming the overall benefits for everyone involved to move in this direction based on items like:
- Reducing pollution thereby assisting our ozone in repairing itself
- Increases production
- Decreases sick time
- Increase quality of life
- Saves thousands of dollars in real estate, which opens opportunities to develop more parks, trees, healthier environment, and housing etc.
- Easy to implement since most homes have DSL or a means to access a network and those that don’t the cost to install still doesn’t compare to the cost of maintaining a building.
Sited Companies like from their research:
- Siemens
- IBM
- AT&T
2. Job creation can begin with a series of projects to work with corporation to not only encourage them to implement work at home processes as in:
- Share with them the overall benefits to our planet
- Reveal the cost savings and reinvestment opportunities towards business development and growth. In addition to offering better competitive compensation packages for employees and still save money.
- Increase the confidence of technology and its ability to broaden their horizon. We’ve been in the global market for some time now and the reality is businesses currently work everyday in a remote world daily. Therefore, why not extend its reach towards work forces especially when it comes to IT and telecommunication companies who develop, maintain, and sale systems everyday there’s no more excuses.
- In the case of days auto industry I’m quite sure they have several departments that can benefit by this type of transition to assist them in saving operational cost.
- Companies can reduce travel cost for their sales departments, meetings can be held remotely via video conferencing. Again, reducing expenses and opening business reinvestments opportunities. The time is here and now. It’s time for corporations to stop the excuses for this evolution; we’re in the 21st century now let’s taking the global lead in this direction.
- Job creation positions like: Project, Implementation, Deployment managers, field technicians, remote technicians, call center agents can offer better cover and more. Most of these positions already exist but their objectives will broaden our lead towards a generational stand, and dare to be different…
Thank you, and Have a Blessed & Peaceful Day!!!
