Ideas for Health Care as it Relates to Holistic Treatment
Question for President-Elect Barack Obama and Tom Daschle will your health care and health insurance revisions and/or overhaul include or exclude holistic & naturopathic treatments and remedies?
Holistic’s and naturopathic remedies set precedence over medicine. Some of the roots of medicine and medication derive from herbal remedies, like somehow grandma learned from great-grandma that Cod Liver oil or caster oil somehow made things better. Additional, remedies like essential oils from fish or garlic assist in our overall health and heart like Omega 3-6-9. Grandma also knew that certain herbs grown from the ground have amazing results.
So, how can we ignore the stories and common sense approach by excluding the use or insurance coverage? Clearly, over the years people who have taken traditional medical approaches have in some cases become frustrated by the results and seek other approaches which have promising results. Why should a naturopathic doctor who takes the same general studies but then chooses to specialize in naturopathic remedies over the traditional doctor be excluded? Exclusion from submitting insurance claims for their patience, patience who can have their herbal remedies covered like a prescription. The cost to choose holistic approaches can be expensive this isn’t fair.
Medicine clearly receives more recognition, funding, insurance coverage over holistics’s this isn’t fair. It’s time to fully incorporate and include NOT exclude holistic and naturopathic as a option on every level and give the citizens the right to choose. The closest we’ve come for medical insurance coverage within naturopathic therapies is acupuncture, chiropractic and massage therapies. This leaves a huge gap remaining for all the other treatments available this needs to change NOW and NOT latter.
The funding disparity is shameful between medical vs. naturopathic, we’re all aware that throughout the year several organizations request donations for additional research. My question is how much of these donations directly towards holistic and naturopathic doctors?
Examples of reason for use of holistic, naturopathic insurance coverage and remedies:
- Over the years allergies in general have been rising and in some cases organic food maybe the answer. I’m aware of someone who became allergic to a variety of common foods over a course of 20+ years. One day they decided to try these foods in the organic format and there wasn’t any allergic reaction, foods like tomatoes, wine, and several fruits.
- This caused me to wonder is it the food or how the food is processed and what type of pesticides are being used. I understand the need to protect our food but how is of major concern. The FDA is suppose to be the gate keeper for this process and yet over the years we’ve had a series recalls. We’re told everything is fine whether food or drug approvals just to find out the many dangers, illnesses, and deaths have consistently occurred. This is the same agency consistently excludes and tells us how bad holistic and naturopathic remedies are, how can we even listen?
- Recently, two of my cousins one of which was diagnosed with liver cancer and they other has a series of chronic lung issues [i.e. One is the same as Bernie Mac, sorry but the disease name escapes me]. I called Cancer Treatment of America just to find out that they can only accept Major Medical insurance and that our government doesn’t support them with grants. Neither cousin has major medical insurance they have medical cards via social services, which isn’t accepted. What’s wrong with this picture the medical profession receives grant money regularly like a staple for all sorts of funding needs [i.e. research and experimental treatments]. Why can’t naturopathic practitioners and holistics receive the same respect.
- One of our daughter’s years ago was diagnosed with scoliosis her spine was 11 degrees off. Prior to this diagnosis she was taken to her regular pedestrian due to of seizure like symptoms and headaches, I was given a prescription for Tylenol with codeine and told potential spinal surgery to brace a steel bar to hold the spine in place. Well, being a mother sometimes certain diagnosis just don’t rest within ones Spirit, so the next stop the same day was the chiropractor who ran several x-ray’s and spinal manipulations over the course of the day. In between each manipulation I laid hands on her and prayed and needless to say by the end of that day the 11 degrees resulted back to zero degrees. The chiropractor was shocked because in cases like this it takes a series of treatments over a period of time to return to zero degrees.
- Our kids used to visit with relatives during the Summer and he gave me the name of the chiropractor that mentored him in case any issues. Needless to say no recurrences that Summer or since. Upon return he wanted to check her again and we went about 4 times, he couldn’t believe it remained at zero degrees then and now. He was very tempted to write it into the chiropractic periodicals.
- He became a chiropractor because he was born with severe scoliosis and did have surgery as a child and had a steel bar implanted, and didn’t like it at all. His goal in life is that no one needs to endure this aliment, and he has classes for his patience.
